A Season of Preparation
“Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room . . .”
This year there are only 26 days between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. With less time than usual to shop for gifts, plan holiday meals, and attend gatherings of family and friends, these 26 days could easily turn into a frantic scramble to get everything ready for Christmas that leaves us fatigued and frazzled. This race to get everything ready could also cause us to lose sight of what we’re actually getting ready for: the coming of Jesus, the newborn King.
This year the season of Advent, which begins on Sunday, December 1, is shorter than usual at less than four weeks. Advent is a season of waiting and preparation, a time to make more room in our hearts for the Lord Jesus. Copies of the “Little Blue Book” – a devotional booklet of daily meditations for Advent – will be available in the gathering area the weekend of November 30 and December 1.
There are also resources on the Internet that can help us make Advent truly a season of preparation. A variety of Advent resources are available from Creighton University’s Online Ministries: Praying Advent - Creighton University.
